As President Trump marks his 100th day in office with historically low approval ratings, immigrant and worker rights groups are organizing nationwide May Day protests to push back against his administration’s attacks on communities across the country.

From Chicago to Los Angeles and New York City, broad coalitions of labor unions, immigrants, students, and educators are mobilizing. Organizers say the Trump administration’s sweeping assaults—on immigrants, sanctuary cities, federal workers, and diversity programs—have unified resistance across sectors.

“Instead of attacking just one group, they’re attacking everyone,” said Jorge Mújica of Arise Chicago. “That’s why we’ve been able to build such a broad coalition.”

In New York, Make the Road and over 50 organizations are calling for mass turnout in Foley Square. “We are the many; they are the few,” said lead organizer Nisha Tabassum. In Los Angeles, United Teachers Vice President Georgia Flowers Lee says educators are fighting for the soul of public education and the safety of immigrant families. DHS agents recently attempted to seize children from L.A. schools—an act met with resistance by school staff.

Meanwhile, ICE raids continue, and outrageous deportations have even swept up U.S. citizen children, including a 4-year-old cancer patient. These acts of cruelty underscore the need to resist.

May Day was born in Chicago as a celebration of labor and resistance. Today, it’s a rallying cry against a corporate-fueled, anti-democratic agenda. Across the country, Americans are taking to the streets to reclaim power and demand justice.
