Berkeley will celebrate the federal holiday Columbus Day, the 2nd Monday in October, October 14 in 2024 as Indigenous Peoples Day. Berkeley was the first city in the U.S. to recognize the holiday as Indigenous Peoples Day in 1992. There are now over 200 cities, 17 states and Washington D.C. following Berkeley’s lead. President Biden is the first President to commemorate Indigenous People on the federal holiday.
